Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill

This is an old entry, but it is still a film that you should try to see!  And it is still playing. Back in March I saw The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill at the Nuart in Santa Monica (watch the trailer). The filmmaker Judy Irving and subject Mark Bittner were there in person for questions and answers.

I loved the film.

This documentary is a very touching story. Overall it is a love story and a touching account of this flock of wild parrots in San Francisco. Mark Bittner has been overseeing a flock of Cherry Headed Conures (there were about 45 during the filming of this doc). After seeing this film, you know many of them by names, and see their personality traits. You can read a few the bios of the birds that Mark Bittner has on his Web site. Mark released a book last year (out in paperback now). Mark has gotten to know the birds so well that he has pieced together their history and relationship to the flock. Just from his years of caring for the birds. (watch short Quicktime of a feeding and a trailer for the film).
